In the summer of 2017 The Greek Restaurant, inspired by childhood memories of Yia-Yia’s cooking and growing up in Greece, opened its doors on the popular Hull Street of Princes Avenue. Offering a taste of authentic Greek meze, relaxed Greek hospitality in a beautiful and airy setting.
Due to the popularity of the restaurant and excellent response from our customers who were travelling from outside of Hull to dine with us, we then decided to open a second restaurant location.
In the autumn of 2018, The Greek’s sister Restaurant was opened on the popular street of Hessle, The Weir, catering for the East Riding and local surrounding villages.
The restaurant soon became one of the most popular within the area, with visitors from Hull to compare the two! Due to the restaurants offering different dining experience, we often find our regulars at both!
We were awarded the prestigious title of Hull’s Best Restaurant as voted by the public. This title and its recognition are one that we are very grateful and humbled by receiving. We uphold a food-hygiene rating of 5* and due to the success of our business we have been able to contribute to not only International charity events such as raising £250 for Macmillan’s biggest coffee morning, but for local business’ and charitable causes too.
Christmas work gathering — Roise_metcalfeI never really write reviews, but I felt this place deserved one! (Which I told the staff this)
We brought the staff to The Greek, after my parents had spoke very highly of the Greek on Princes Avenue. Let just say we wasn’t disappointed! We walked in to the restaurant and was greeted straight away by the manager who sat us down in the lovely booth area, she asked if we had been before, explaining the experience of the restaurant! She helped us order our wine for the table, to which would help suit our meze. She also helped us order a selection number of dips and breads while we decided on the menu. after leaving us to decide, we was unsure which would be better to suit out different needs at the table, the manager Carly, sold us a selected few dishes Including the lovely vegetarian dish from the specials board. The meze started flowing to the table straight away, Was all so beautiful with so many flavours! The staff came over and asked how everything was, filling up our wine glasses on the table.
After finishing our meal, Carly offered us coffee and desserts, which turned in to more wine and desserts. We had 2 of each desserts of the menu to share Between us, which was a lovely idea from the staff. I’ve been to Greece 2 years ago and felt like I was back in the heart of it all! The food, the wine and the staff was all amazing, it’s not usual for all my staff to be happy and the Greek made that happen. Not to forget, when we got our bill, Carly sent over a lovely tray of ouzo for our last celebration of Christmas with the team! Which was a lovely touch to the night. Thank you to the Greek, we can’t wait to be back again.
Amazing food for all company & occasions — Bambi_and_BearfoodWe have been coming to The Greek since the restaurant first opened, having lived down Princes Avenue for a long time, it has been wonderful to see a business that has blossomed as The Greek has and brought a little extra culture and class back to the area; rather than closed as quickly as it opened like so many here have.
If you've dined at either of the restaurants you'll understand why they're such a huge success and definitely deserving of their recent Hull's Best Restaurant title; whatever the occasion whether it's groups of friends, a date night or special occasion the staff have always gone above and beyond to make sure everyone in the group leaves happy! The managers are always the first to offer to entertain our daughter (1 year old) which sometimes is a god-send and means mamma actually gets to enjoy a quiet meal. I think our daughter loves the place as much as we do, having basically weaned on Greek food. Her favourites are the fresh pitta, hummus, tatziki, fish goujons and gyros (what can we say the girls got taste). It's great as young parents to have a restaurant that is as family-friendly as The Greek is, we've never felt pressured to leave with our daughter at a certain time, there are high chairs available and well stocked baby changing facilities. As part of an extended family with a lot of children, we've struggled in the past to find restaurants fitting for special occasions beyond the cheap and cheerful pub chains so this really is a blessing!
The restaurant itself is beautiful and airy, the food is always without fault and even picky eaters have never struggled to be impressed and leave full, and then some.
Get him to the Greek! — annief_12345When my boyfriend's dad decided (last minute) to visit us in Hull for his birthday, we were unbelievably excited to finally get him to try The Greek.
5 of us visited and we absolutely demolished portions of almost everything on the table; I didn't event get chance to take a photo for this review! My favourite, the fried cheese, was as wonderful as always, and our family particularly lived the meatballs and the gemista (stuffed peppers).
Can't wait until we visit again!
Soooo good — Emmaag17After being trapped in my house for a few months and over Christmas with a rough first trimester of pregnancy I finally felt my appetite come back and wanted a date night with my partner! We went after work on a Thursday, to begin with we were the only people in the restaurant and the waitress was so lovely and attentive. We ordered the mixed grill sharer platter which came really quickly and is so impressive when it arrives! The meat was really tender (I was apprehensive of the lamb chops because they're usually like cardboard when you get them at other places but they were so soft!). My partner, myself and my small baby bump had the best meal we'd had in ages and it was great to feel like a normal human being and getting out the house again! We are already planning when we can go back. It was really reasonably priced at £30 for the mixed grill and we left absolutely stuffed. Loved it.
Great food and service — Fran_BurkillVisited in November with a friend, we shared the mixed grill and it was amazing, the portions were very generous and it was great to be able to try so many different things off the menu. The restaurant had a great busy atmosphere, service was quick and the staff were all really welcoming and friendly and even helped is chose a nice wine! Will definitely be visiting again!
A piece of Greece in Hull — ShaneHullukMy wife and I have holidays in Greece mainly Lindos and this restaurant is a true depiction of our hols.
The food is absolutely delicious and the mixed grill being our personal, favorite
The staff are attentive and very professional
We go most fridays and are welcomed like family.....typical Greek way of doing things.
Keep up the good work guys
Great Value — Tony SMeze-style restaurant with friendly and efficient staff, quick service and very tasty food.
The usual 'eyes bigger than belly' syndrome. Waitress suggested 5 dishes, but I also fancied the houmous, which then I had to order pitta bread, so 7 dishes in all 🙂
We did manage to work through it, but no room left for the baklava on the dessert menu.
Lovely place and sensibly priced dishes.
